Jonas has been with BLS since 1999, and has acquired hands-on experience in all areas of the industry, beginning his career as a truck driver / paving crew laborer. As BLS expanded he moved on to operating equipment on site doing preparation / earth work, screening, paving, and chip sealing, eventually assuming the position of finishing operator and base crew foreman. When BLS expanded further to include a crushing division; Jonas spent several winters working as a crusher and equipment operator before becoming the overall job superintendent looking after paving, base, chip seal, earthwork, crushing and truck coordination year round.
Jonas grew up in the construction business visiting jobs with his father, Jim, who was at that time working with South Construction and later ASL. As a young boy, he spent summers on his grandfather’s and uncle’s mixed farm at Simpson. Jonas credits his strong work ethic and love of farming to these summers. Jonas now runs a small farm near Southey, SK consisting of land and around forty mother cows.
The family tradition continues with the birth of Jonas’s daughter Isabelle Marie Short, who is his reason for getting up every day and working hard to guarantee Isabelle has the same opportunities to pursue her dreams as he had.
Isabelle loves the farm and even has some cows of her own. Following in her father’s footsteps, of learning the business from the ground up, Isabelle spends time at the office assisting her Grandma and Grandpa and Aunt Jen when she is not out on the crusher.
BLS is a Saskatchewan owned, family-run business, Jonas looks forward to this family tradition continuing.
